My reviews of the (Sigourney Weaver) Alien movies.
- Alien: Classic. Nearly perfect and, of course, the best one.
- Aliens: Holy smokes this is a good movie! It holds up so well. The practical effects are golden. The suspense is so well done. Ripley is such a badass.
- Alien³: Not bad. CGI looks super dated, though. I’m sad that gender is still such a problematic thing in the future.
- Alien Resurrection: The Gremlins 2 of Alien movies. I did enjoy nihilistic clone Ripley and (spoilers) the human/Xenomorph hybrid at the end saying “Oh no! Oh no!” as its being sucked out into space (is there any other way to end an Alien movie?) was really something. I beg you not to click on that link.
“Both Sides”
Hi ⌧⌧⌧,
Thank you again for your time yesterday.
After our discussion and then researching some of your previous customers, I wish to withdraw my application. I can no longer in good conscience consider working for ⌧⌧⌧. The term you used when I asked about people abusing your platform, “both sides,” echos what former President Trump said when he blatantly failed to denounce the group of white supremacists who rallied in Charlottesville in 2017.
Hiding behind the term “free speech” is dishonest. It was dishonest when Shopify said it with regards to hosting the Breitbart store, and it’s dishonest in this circumstance. It’s putting money over people’s lives. “De-platforming” is not a threat to free speech. People, including the former President, are welcome to say almost anything they want without the threat of legal repercussions. That’s what free speech means; it means that you don’t get imprisoned for what you have to say. It doesn’t mean a private company should be compelled to host their hate.
If one “side” is talking about the dignity and sanctity of human beings and the other “side” is feeling threatened because of being held accountable for their hatred, we’re not talking about equivalent “sides.” Human rights are considered to be merely politics by some “sides.”
Even if they don’t break a law (or your terms of use) with their hatred, I will take no part in helping “both sides.”
Sincerely,
Trey Piepmeier
I paid to start a subscription here to see if I could use this for straight up blogging rather than deal with Jekyll.
I may just end up going to WordPress before long.

Bernard and Dorothy

I woke up this morning with the noise of thumping music outside. I picked up my Polaroid 100 and walked over to see what was going on. It was the Color Vibe 5k. It seemed more like a rave.
I took three photos and then somebody stopped me to ask me about my camera. He asked if it was an SX-70. I talked about the camera for a bit and then he called his wife over to look at it. I took a picture of the two of them and waited, peeled it, and then gave it to them 1. We talked about the difference between integral film and packfilm and the fact that you can still buy both kinds film today. It was a fun experience all around. I love being able to have random conversations with people about cameras (or whatever). It’s nice to have a way to connect with people about something that makes them happy. They were thrilled to get the photo (which came out great).
Their names were Bernard and Dorothy. Bernard wanted me to know that his “HU” hat was for Howard University.
- One of the cool things about this peel-apart film is that even though I gave them the positive, I still have the negative to scan. [return]
